I have used Stuart Taylor and/or Cindy Driver as my primary recruiters for two businesses over the past 10 years or so. The best thing you can ask of a recruiter is to be effective in understanding the needs of the position and making the best match to candidates. First and foremost, Stuart and Cindy are great listeners and are able to successfully replay back to me the requirements of the position. Secondly, they are good critical thinkers and go beneath the obvious stated requirements to truly understand what the position is doing and how it will be compensated. Third, they use their understanding of the position to get truly qualified candidates. Many recruiters will only make a cursory effort on qualifying candidates and rely on the employer to screen. I never had that problem with Stuart and Cindy - they were very effective at screening because they understood the needs of the position. Finally, Stuart and Cindy always had our business interests at heart and treated our business relationship almost like a partnership. As a start-up we needed to be frugal and flexible in our recruiting and they provided reasonable fees and were flexible in how the relationship was defined.
